Examination Results 2017

 

The results below are the provisional results from the 2017 examination series. Some of the statistics below may still change as we are still awaiting the outcome of paper reviews. 

 

 

  

Figures in brackets are the averages from over 1500 secondary schools in PiXL (Partners in Excellence).

 -  no national data available due to new performance measures.

 

The following information was compiled by PiXL based on the results submitted on 24th August. It should be noted that a number of our appeals have returned successfully and have enhanced some of the figures below. The data is benchmarked against over 1500 secondary schools nationally.

Please note that there are inherent dangers in making these comparisons as the indicators are not like for like. 

These comparisons compare the 2015-16 A*-C percentage with the 2016-17 4+ percentage. 

 

English:                        N/A as either Literature or Language count in 2017 figures

Maths:                          +9.57% improvement from 2016

English & Maths:          +15%    improvement from 2016

2017 83% achieved 4+ in English (Language or Literature)

2016 58% of students achieved A* - C in English (+24%)

2017 Progress 8 based on 2017 unvalidated data = + 0.11

2016 Progress 8 based on 2016 validated data = - 0.41

New Benchmarks from Pixl for 2017 are given below :-

  • English 4+ AHS 83.2% - National (74.8%)
  • English 5+ AHS 53.5% - National (58.4%)
  • Maths 4+AHS 72.3% - National (68.9%)
  • Maths 5+AHS 47.5% - National (49.5%)
  • English & Maths 4+ AHS 67% - National (62%)
  • English & Maths 5+ AHS 37% - National (39.9%)
  • Attainment 8 AHS 44.3 - National (42.7)
  • Progress 8 AHS +0.11(+0.54 from 2016)

Each point on the scatter graph is a set distance from the line of best fit for the PiXL data. The distances for schools has been split into 5 quintiles relative to the line of best fit. The ranges are arbitrarily chosen and do not relate to the judgements made by the DfE on significance.
